The Challenge of Unaccompanied Minor
A Human Resources Director at an academic customer based in Nairobi, which had closed their school for the summer holidays, approached Key Travel to assist her three children (twins aged 12 years and a 15-year-old) in travelling to Atlanta, USA unaccompanied, as she and her husband needed to remain for work purposes.
The Problem
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, most airlines changed their travel policies with only a small number now accepting unaccompanied minors, and where accepted there is the caveat that they must be connecting on flights operated by the same airline as direct flights.
June -July is peak season and the preference flight was KLM out of Nairobi, with the connecting direct flight being a Delta operated flight. However, having secured seats all the way, the Delta flight could not confirm the unaccompanied minor service on that flight.
Our Solution
Using their expertise and industry knowledge. Our Key Travel operations team, based in Nairobi researched alternative options and suggested an Air France flight, which had a better flying time and less waiting in Paris, which could also guarantee the unaccompanied minor service.
The Result
- The children arrived safely in Atlanta and the customer reported that the service they received during the flight was excellent.
- The client’s Human Resources Director sent a letter of thanks to the Key Travel team.
- The organisation subsequently appointed Key Travel to be their sole travel provider, due to our team’s willingness to go above and beyond the norm.
“Thank you for always going over and above and the feedback received from the staff on this service has provided us with assurance of your care in arranging flights”.
